It is a contemporary residence located in Oberberg, Styria and the contemporary residence is actually a transformation of a traditional wine cellar into a contemporary architecture. The wine cellar itself was used for agricultural purposes in a fruit and wine-growing area.
Situated in Oberberg, Styria, Austria, the contemporary residence constitutes a historical wooden building that has a gabled roof which stands on a site that is dedicated as an open land.
The designing of this contemporary residence had to be done by preserving the old building and transforming it into an ideal arrangement of a Paarhof with residential and farm buildings that are separated from each other.
For this very purpose, a self-contained structure was planned to be built in the opposite of the wine cellar on the west side.
The arrangement of Haus am Steinberg that has been created comprise two two-storey buildings that have parallel roof ridges that are related both with regard to form and materials. The two buildings have become one functional unit via a cubic glass living room that is situated between them.
This connecting element can also serve as the buildingâ€™s main entrance. In this contemporary residence, however, the old buildingâ€™s traditional basement floor does not exist anymore.
The contemporary residence has a west side that opens up in a wedge-like shape since the length of the roofs were shortened and the buildingâ€™s wooden facade has been broken up by its generous glass surfaces.
This way, the new building can be aligned with its older relative and at the same time, it also opens up towards the landscape.
In any way, located in Oberberg, this contemporary residence is unquestionably amongst the residences with the most enchanting designs in Austria.
