Japan is definitely where modern residences with mesmerizing designs are and this modern residence is one of the mesmerizing modern residences located in the country. This modern residence constitutes a renovation project by Hironaka Ogawa & Associates and it was created in 2012.
The modern residence is located in Kagawa. There were trees with sentimental value that grew on the property and the trees proved to be an obstacle to the expansion of the house. Removing the trees became one the design requirements as the new additional building could not be built if the trees remained there.
The modern residence is an extension project of a thirty-five-year-old house and growing in the houseâ€™s property were two trees that had looked over the family for thirty five years. Cutting down the two trees would not be a good idea as the trees were quite precious.
As a result, utilizing the trees and creating a new place for the client thus became the main theme for the design.
Constituting a modern residence in Kagawa, Japan, this mesmerizing modern residence is where an Azelkova tree and a Camphor tree stood ever since the main house was built about and of course, the trees were very precious.
Thus, the architect decided to cut the trees with their branches intact and reduced the water content by smoking and drying them for a total of two weeks.
The architect then placed the two trees where the trees used to stand and then used them as main structural columns in the center of the houseâ€™s living room, kitchen, and dining room.
To mimic the way the trees stand, the architect sunk the building addition 70 centimeters down the ground. The architect also made sure to keep the height of the addition part of the home lower than the main house while still maintaining 4 meters ceiling height.
